When it comes to cheap web hosting, there’s hardly a company alive that we like more than FatCow. Why is this? Well, for starters, it isn’t because we think they’re the greatest hosting company around: They aren’t. It also isn’t because they offer the cheapest plans we’ve ever heard of—they simply don’t. However, it is for the fact that they make web hosting simple, easy to understand, and so comprehensive that literally anybody can do it. So with all of that in mind, we’re quite tickled to be bringing you today a full, no holds barred review and peek at the services that FatCow offers, working our way from the ground-up.
So if you’re looking for a new web host to handle your domain—or one to host your brand new site and franchise—you’ve come to the right place. If you’ve never before heard of FatCow, or simply haven’t considered them as your host, then we’ll be passing along quite a bit of information that will help you stay informed. We promise to give you all of the dirt exactly as we see it, and though we favor the company, it doesn’t mean we’ll be biased. Why we like FatCow?
First out of the box, we have the pricing that FatCow offers. If you’re looking for cheap web hosting on the Net, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better bargain than FatCow. It’s not the cheapest we have ever seen, but then again for the features that you’ll get, it is perhaps the best value. Here’s what we mean:
A hosting plan with FatCow will run you only $40 a year. That might sound like a lot at first, but if you do the math, that works out to only $3.33 a year for the framework that will act as your FatCow hosting. That’s not a bad price in the slightest, and though it isn’t quite the cheapest we’ve seen anywhere, it is certainly towards the bottom. Keeping all of that information in mind, let’s go ahead and take a look at what exactly you’ll be able to afford with that price at FatCow.
Unlike a lot of other web hosting providers that we know, FatCow doesn’t just give you a cheap price and no features. In fact, with FatCow as your choice provider, you’ll be getting quite a lot of bang for your buck. For instance, they offer a whole lot of space and bandwidth for you to work with. Furthermore, their regulations on your bandwidth and network use are a whole lot simpler than most. It goes something like this:
If you are an average customer, you will use not a whole lot of either disk space or bandwidth. This is simply to be expected, as you aren’t yet pulling the massive amounts of traffic that a major corporation’s site might. As such, FatCow gives you free reign over their servers. You may use absolutely as much of their space and bandwidth as you need to keep things going. However, if you do start to pull a whole lot of traffic—and as we understand it, you will need to pull a whole lot of traffic— FatCow will curb what you can do without a price hike. This means that, for 99.95% of all users, there’s absolutely no worrying about going over your limits, or exceeding your disk space allowance. And for those rare breeds that are in that last decimal point, FatCow will always keep you informed about what your site is doing, and what they’ll need to do in return to keep the ship running. It’s smooth, functional, and so simple it hurts. Which leads us right into our next reason to use FatCow:
Simplicity is King Here
Unlike a lot of other hosting providers, FatCow doesn’t give you a tiered pricing scheme to pick from. In fact, you’ll not find any of those complicated and messy charts anywhere. Why is this? Because FatCow is doing something completely different with their hosting, something that we adore to the umpteenth degree. Instead of providing their users with a choice of some fifteen different plans, all of which come with different feature sets for specific purposes, FatCow instead provides everyone with a single, base hosting account and shared performance. From there, you can add additional features using the FatCow market, which provides other areas of expertise for a small premium.
The best way we know to describe it goes something like this: With FatCow, you’re given the basic framework to work with. This is a barebones but feature rich offering that you can then custom tailor to meet your exact needs. In this way, you can build a performance bundle that works for your personal blog, for your business site, or for anything else that you might need to construct. It’s fast, efficient, and with FatCow, the power really is in your hands.
The last, though hardly least, reason we like FatCow so much has to do with their quality of customer support. First of all, FatCow is a United States-based hosting company, with call and data centers located locally. This means that, when you choose to sign up with them, you’ll have 24/7 access to their personal support lines, all of which come with native English speakers.
However, if you live in the States, you know that hosting providers could easily pull any old joe of the street, just to say they have English speaking call centers. The technicians that FatCow have hired are specially trained, and can guarantee you a quick solution to your problems in minutes. This is a wonderful thing, and it means that any downtime you experience will be sorted out posthaste, guaranteed. And that’s a bargain to us!
